Make music with an AI
Add LastTrack as a connector in the Claude app or website, and Claude can start songs for you and add its own tracks to them. It joins as its own member, with your name and a robot beside it, so everyone can see which parts it made.
Connect Claude
Custom connectors work on every Claude plan: Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. The Free plan allows one. You can set LastTrack up in the Claude app or on the website.
- 1If you don't have a LastTrack account yet, you can create one when Claude asks you to sign in.
- 2Open Connectors. In the iPhone or Android app, go to Settings, then Connectors. On claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, go to Customize, then Connectors. Then choose Add custom connector (on the web, select + first).
- 3Name it LastTrack and enter https://api.lasttrack.app/mcp. If Claude shows sign-in options, choose Sign in now and Use Claude's published identity. If you only see name, URL and Advanced settings, leave Advanced settings empty.
- 4Select Add, then Connect. Sign in to LastTrack and allow access.
- 5In a chat, open the + menu (or type /), choose Connectors, turn on LastTrack, and ask for a song.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner or Primary Owner goes to Organization settings, then Connectors, on claude.ai and selects Add, then Custom, then Web. They enter the address and choose Use Claude's published identity if asked. Each member then opens Connectors (Settings, then Connectors in the app; Customize, then Connectors on the web), finds LastTrack, marked Custom, and selects Connect.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT connects to LastTrack through Developer mode. It's available on the web only, not in the ChatGPT mobile apps, and not on the Free or Go plans. For most people, Claude is the easier option.
On a Business, Enterprise or Edu plan, ask a workspace admin to:
- 1Turn on Developer mode for the workspace, or for specific members.
- 2Go to Workspace settings, then Apps, then Create. Enter https://api.lasttrack.app/mcp, choose OAuth, select Scan Tools, then Create.
- 3Publish the app so members can see it.
Then, in a chat, choose LastTrack from the tools menu or type @LastTrack.
On a Plus or Pro plan:
- 1On chatgpt.com, open Settings and turn on Developer mode.
- 2Add a new app with the address https://api.lasttrack.app/mcp, choose OAuth and sign in to LastTrack.
- 3In a chat, choose Developer mode from the + menu and select LastTrack.
On some plans, LastTrack may only be able to read your songs, not write tracks.
Claude Code
In a terminal, add LastTrack to Claude Code with this command:
claude mcp add --transport http lasttrack https://api.lasttrack.app/mcpThen run /mcp in a session and choose Authenticate. To make LastTrack available in every project, add --scope user:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user lasttrack https://api.lasttrack.app/mcpWhat your AI can and can't do
Your AI works on your songs, and on songs you've joined when their owner turned on Allow AI collaborators in song Settings, under Collaboration.
It can:
- Start a song for you, with the title, tempo, key and length you ask for.
- Read your songs: their settings, who made each track, and every track's notes.
- Pick instruments by type, such as drums or bass, and see the hits in each drum kit.
- Add its own tracks.
- Write or clear bars on its own tracks.
- Rename its own tracks, give them a new instrument, or remove them.
- Set the volume and pan of its own tracks.
It can't:
- Change a song's tempo, key or length once the song has started.
- Mute tracks or add effects.
- Make songs public.
- Start, join or vote in battles.
- Change other people's tracks.
- Work on songs entered in a battle.
It can read public songs it can reach, but can't change them. A public song has to be made private again before your AI can change it.
It reads notes as text, so it doesn't hear the song. Tell it what you hear.
How it writes notes
You don't need this to make music with your AI. For the curious, it writes notes as text, one line per bar. Each entry on the line is one step, which is one row of the grid.
- A2, C#4, Bb3
- A note: its name, then its octave. C4 is middle C.
- KCK, SNR
- A drum hit, named after the kit's hits, such as kick and snare.
- .
- Holds the note, so it keeps sounding.
- -
- Stops the note.
- !
- After a note or hit, plays it with an accent.
- ?
- After a note or hit, plays it soft.
In a song with 8 steps per bar, A2 . . - C3 . E3 G2 is a bar of bass: A2 sounds for three steps and stops, then C3 plays for two steps, then E3 and G2.
Things to ask
- Start a lo-fi song at 80 BPM with drums and a bass line.
- Read Night Drive and add a pad that follows the bass.
- Make the drums in bars 5 to 8 busier, with a fill in bar 8.
- Swap your lead to something brighter.
Tool approvals
Claude asks before it uses LastTrack's tools. On the Connectors screen, you can set each tool to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked. Choose Always allow only for the tools that read: List songs, Read a song and List instruments.
Claude's Research mode can call connector tools without asking each time. Turn LastTrack off while you use Research.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner can block write tools for the whole organization. If they do, LastTrack can't add tracks or write bars.
ChatGPT asks you to confirm before LastTrack makes changes, by default.
Troubleshooting
- Connect fails or times out: LastTrack's server isn't reachable from Claude's or OpenAI's cloud.
- LastTrack is missing from the + menu in a chat: it isn't turned on for that chat, or on a Team or Enterprise plan, the Owner hasn't added it.
- Sign-in settings need to change: in Claude, remove LastTrack and add it again.
- LastTrack's tools were updated: refresh the app in ChatGPT's settings. On Business, a published app may need to be created and published again.
Undo its work
Everything the AI does shows in the song's Activity, like anyone's. Open a track's History to go back to an earlier version, or delete its tracks from the track menu if you own the song.
Turn it off
In My stuff, under Settings, turn off AI connector. Every connected app stops at once.
To remove LastTrack from one app:
- Claude: remove it from the same Connectors screen you added it on. On a Team or Enterprise plan, the Owner removes it in Organization settings, then Connectors.
- ChatGPT: remove it in ChatGPT's app settings. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, the admin manages it in Workspace settings.
A song's owner can turn off Allow AI collaborators on that song at any time; the AI's tracks stay, and it can't change them any more.
